Alameda Navel Air Base opened in 1936 and was decommissioned in 1997. The base is now called Alameda Point. It still consists of many abandoned buildings. But, some reconstruction has turned these forgotten buildings into thriving businesses such as a wineries, breweries, a bike shop, a gym, sports fields, food venues, an auction house, a skate park, to name a few. The city of Alameda is heading the redevelopment of the former base, which will include housing and is slated to be completed by 2035.
